Maintain the Perfect Aquatic Environment pH is the measure of acidity of water, on a scale ranging from 0 to 14. Because different geographies have wildly different tap water conditions, achieving the exact pH your fish need to thrive is essential. API pH DOWN safely and effectively lowers the pH in your freshwater aquarium to the desired level.

Different fish require different pH levels to live a long, healthy life:

  • 7.0 (Neutral): Ideal for a standard community aquarium with a variety of tropical fish.

  • 7.2 to 7.5: The sweet spot for Mollies, Swordtails, Goldfish, and Livebearers.

  • 6.5 to 6.8: Highly preferred by Amazonian fish like Angelfish and Neon Tetras.

Why Choose API? For almost 60 years, API has developed premium solutions with proven and effective results. With API aquarium products, it’s easy to keep a beautiful, safe, and hospitable underwater world for your fish and plants.

Key Features:

  • Safe & Fast-Acting: Lowers pH safely without harming fish or live aquarium plants.

  • Highly Versatile: Perfect for setting up a new aquarium, performing water changes, or making routine weekly pH adjustments.

  • Counters Natural Fluctuations: Helps fight against the natural pH spikes caused by fish waste, uneaten food, and alkaline tap water.

Instructions for Use:

  1. Determine the current pH of your aquarium water using an API pH TEST KIT.

  2. To lower the pH, add 2 drops per 1 U.S. gallon (3.8 L) of aquarium water.

  3. Take another pH reading before adding another dose.

Important Tips & Warnings:

  • Fish Sensitivity: Some fish may be sensitive to pH adjustments greater than 0.2 within a 24-hour period. Changes of this magnitude should be executed with extreme care.

  • Water Buffering: Some tap water is naturally high in mineral ions (like carbonate and bicarbonate), which strongly buffer the water and resist pH changes. This can cause a ā€œpH rebound.ā€ In these situations, repeated daily dosing may be necessary to lower the pH securely.

  • Routine: It is highly recommended to test your aquarium water for pH weekly.
