Seachem Matrix – Aquarium Biofilter Media Malta Seachem Matrix is a high-porosity biological filtration media designed to provide efficient biofiltration by removing nitrogen waste in aquariums. Available in Malta from BirdsMalta™, Seachem Matrix supports the growth of beneficial bacteria that break down ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate in both freshwater and marine aquariums. Seachem Matrix is a porous inorganic biomedia approximately 10 mm in diameter . Each liter of Matrix provides more than 700 m² of surface area , equivalent to the surface area of around 170 liters of plastic bio balls . Unlike many plastic biomedia products that only provide external surface area, Seachem Matrix provides both external and internal macroporous surface area . These pores create the ideal environment for aerobic and anaerobic bacteria , allowing the filter media to remove ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate simultaneously . Application of Seachem Matrix Seachem Matrix can be placed directly into any type of aquarium filter , including canister filters, sump systems, wet-dry filters, and internal filters. Use approximately 250 ml of Matrix for every 200 liters of aquarium water for optimal biological filtration. Matrix can be used without a filter media bag , although placing it inside a media bag may make maintenance easier. Occasional rinsing with aquarium water may be done if debris accumulates.
